Nicotinamide mononucleotide, abbreviated NMN, is a nucleotide composed of nicotinamide, ribose, and phosphate. Its structure links nicotinamide to D-ribose 5-phosphate through a glycosidic bond, placing it in the pyridine nucleotide family. The compound exists in alpha and beta anomeric forms, and the beta form is the one used in NAD+ biosynthesis. NMN is not a protein or a hormone; it is a small water-soluble molecule that occurs in living cells as a metabolic intermediate.
Natural sources of NMN include mammals, plants, and microorganisms, where it functions as an intermediate in NAD+ salvage and biosynthesis pathways. In mammals, the enzyme nicotinamide phosphoribosyltransferase produces NMN from nicotinamide and phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate. NMN is then converted to NAD+ by nicotinamide mononucleotide adenylyltransferase. Some foods contain measurable NMN, but reported amounts vary widely by species, tissue, and analytical method. The extent to which dietary NMN contributes to cellular NAD+ pools remains an open research question.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, commonly abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure combines a nicotinamide ring with a ribose sugar and a phosphate group. The compound appears in cells across many organisms as an intermediate in the production of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. Because NMN sits close to NAD+ in metabolism, it has drawn interest in biochemistry and aging research. The molecule is not a dietary essential nutrient in the classical sense, and its presence in food is generally low and variable.
NAD+ serves as a coenzyme in redox reactions and as a substrate for enzymes involved in DNA repair and cellular signaling. In the salvage pathway, nicotinamide is converted to NMN by the enzyme NAMPT. NMN is then converted to NAD+ by NMNAT enzymes. A separate route links nicotinamide riboside to NMN through phosphorylation. These pathways maintain NAD+ levels, which can decline with age or metabolic stress in some tissues. The relative contribution of circulating NMN to tissue NAD+ remains an active area of study.

Nicotinamide mononucleotide, usually shortened to NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide base linked to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. In cells, NMN serves as an intermediate in the salvage pathway that produces nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+. Because NAD+ participates in many oxidation-reduction reactions, NMN sits near central metabolic processes. The compound is not a drug in most jurisdictions and is discussed mainly in biochemistry and nutrition research.
The term NMN commonly refers to the beta isomer, in which the nicotinamide group is attached to the ribose through a beta-glycosidic bond. Commercial material may be supplied as the free acid or as a salt, such as a sodium salt, which affects molecular weight and water solubility. Related compounds include nicotinamide riboside and NAD+ itself, but these are distinct molecules with different formulas and cellular handling. Laboratory research often uses the beta form because it matches the naturally occurring configuration found in biological systems.
Nicotinamide mononucleotide, commonly abbreviated NMN, is a naturally occurring nucleotide found in the cells of many organisms. Its structure consists of a nicotinamide group linked to a ribose sugar that carries a phosphate group. NMN is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, or NAD+, a coenzyme involved in many metabolic reactions. The abbreviation usually refers to the beta anomer, though related forms can exist. In scientific literature, NMN is distinct from nicotinamide riboside, another NAD+ precursor.
In the NAD+ salvage pathway, the enzyme NAMPT converts nicotinamide and a phosphate-donor molecule into NMN. A second enzyme, NMNAT, then converts NMN into NAD+. Nicotinamide riboside can also enter this route after being converted to NMN by nicotinamide riboside kinases. Because NMN sits at a junction between precursor uptake and NAD+ formation, its cellular concentration is tightly linked to enzyme activity and tissue type. NAD+ participates in redox reactions, signaling, and DNA repair, and its levels decline with age in some animal models, though human evidence remains more limited and context-dependent.
The Ukrainian military announced its withdrawal from the Kanal neighborhood of Chasiv Yar. One person was killed in a Russian missile strike on Odesa, while another person was killed in a separate attack in Donetsk Oblast. The Russian military destroyed a Ukrainian MiG-29 fighter jet in a missile strike at Krivoi Rog Air Base. In Russia, the Tambov Gunpowder plant was struck by HUR drones. Russian officials denied any damage and reported all drones shot down. Civilian videos showed explosions in the area.
==== Methods of label-free quantification ==== AUC is a method by which for a given peptide spectrum in an LC-MS run, the area under the spectral peak is calculated. AUC peak measurements are linearly proportional to the concentration of protein in a given analyte mixture. Quantification is achieved through ion counts, the measurement of the amount of an ion at a specific retention time. Discretion is required for the standardization of the raw data. High-resolution spectrometer can alleviate problems that arise when trying to make data reproducible, however much of the work regarding normalizing data can be done through software such as OpenMS, and MassView. Spectral counting involves counting the spectra of an identified protein and then standardizing using some form of normalization. Typically this is done with an abundant peptide mass selection (MS) that is then fragmented and then MS/MS spectra are counted. Multiple samplings of the protein peak is required for accurate estimation of the protein abundance because of the complex physiochemical nature of peptides. Thus, optimization for MS/MS experiments is a constant concern. One alternative to get around this problems is use a data independent technique that cycles between high and low collision energies. Thus a large survey of all possible precursor and product ions is collected. This is limited, however, by the mass spectrometry software's ability to recognize and match peptide patterns of associations between the precursor and product ions.
As an AAS, ethylestrenol is an agonist of the androgen receptor (AR), similarly to androgens like testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It has low estrogenic activity (via aromatization into ethylestradiol following transformation into norethandrolone), strong progestogenic activity, and a high ratio of anabolic to androgenic activity, similarly to other nandrolone derivatives. Like other 17α-alkylated AAS, ethylestrenol has a risk of hepatotoxicity.

When tungsten filaments were introduced, about 50 million lamp sockets existed in the US. In 1914, 88.5 million lamps were used, (only 15% with carbon filaments), and by 1945, annual sales of lamps were 795 million (more than 5 lamps per person per year).
==== Mayker Filema Duarte elected ==== On Friday, September 20, 2024, Acting Grand Master Mayker Filema Duarte was unanimously elected Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Cuba, during the regular annual and semiannual sessions of the High Chamber of the Grand Lodge of Cuba. Due to the special nature of the circumstances, Filema Duarte was understood to only have been elected to finish-out the rest of the term that Urquía Carreño would have normally completed until the next scheduled semi-annual meeting of the High Chamber in March, 2025, when the elections for the positions at the Grand Lodge usually occur. Over the next six months, many Cuban Freemasons started to believe that Filema Duarte was simply an extension of the same brand of corruption and government abuse that Urquía Carreño had been. He had also been risen through the ranks under the administration of Urquía Carreño. The fact that the Office of Associations and its director Miriam García publicly gave their support to Filema Duarte raised their suspicions, leading them to suspect that he was yet another government puppet. On March 23, 2025, the High Chamber met for their normal semi-annual session (they meet every September and March), and old business was conducted with Filema Duarte presiding. When it was time for new business to be conducted, one of the Freemasons reminded him about holding elections, at which point Filema Duarte suspended the session of the High Chamber. The election did not occur.
Outpatients were not usually a junior house officer's responsibility, but such clinics formed a large part of the workload of more senior trainees, often with little real supervision. Registrar posts lasted one or two years, and sometimes much longer outside an academic setting. It was common to move from one registrar post to another. Fields such as psychiatry and radiology used to be entered at the registrar stage, but the other registrars would usually have passed part one of a higher qualification, such as a Royal College membership or fellowship before entering that grade. Part two (the complete qualification) was necessary before obtaining a senior registrar post, usually linked to a medical school, but many left hospital practice at this stage rather than wait years to progress to a consultant post. Most British clinical diplomas (requiring one or two years' experience) and membership or fellowship exams were not tied to particular training grades, though the length of training and nature of experience might be specified. Participation in an approved training scheme was required by some of the royal colleges. The sub-specialty exams in surgery, now for Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, were originally limited to senior registrars. These rules prevented many of those in non-training grades from qualifying to progress. Once a senior registrar, depending on specialty, it could take anything from one to six years to go onto a permanent consultant or senior lecturer appointment. It might be necessary to obtain an M.D. or Ch. M.

Sex reassignment operations (gender-affirming surgery) have been performed in Thailand since 1975, and Thailand is among the most popular destinations globally for patients seeking such operations. Puberty blockers and cross sex hormones are also available to minors in Thailand. Transgender people are quite common in Thai popular entertainment, television shows and nightclub performances, however, transgender people lack various legal rights compared to the rest of the population, and may face discrimination from society. Transgender women, known as kathoeys, have access to hormones through non-prescription sources. This kind of access is a result of the low availability and expense of transgender health care clinics. However, transgender men have difficulty gaining access to hormones such as testosterone in Thailand because it is not as readily available as hormones for kathoeys. As a result, just a third of all trans men surveyed are taking hormones to transition whereas almost three quarters of kathoeys surveyed are taking hormones.
Common generators (or producers) of biomedical waste include hospitals, health clinics, nursing homes, emergency medical services, medical research laboratories, offices of physicians, dentists, veterinarians, home health care and morgues or funeral homes. In healthcare facilities (i.e. hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, veterinary hospitals and clinical laboratories), waste with these characteristics may alternatively be called medical or clinical waste. Within healthcare facilities, operating rooms (ORs) generate the most waste, contributing to the polluted environment. Biomedical waste is distinct from normal trash or general waste, and differs from other types of hazardous waste, such as chemical, radioactive, universal or industrial waste. Medical facilities generate waste hazardous chemicals and radioactive materials. While such wastes are normally not infectious, they require proper disposal. Some wastes are considered multihazardous, such as tissue samples preserved in formalin.
Thrombocytopenia a significant drop in platelet count that leaves one open to life-threatening bleeds. Eosinophilia an elevated level of the eosinophils of the body. Eosinophils are the type of immune cell that's job is to fight off parasitic invaders. Jaundice yellowing of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes due to an impaired ability of the body to clear the by product of haem breakdown, bilirubin, most often the result of liver damage as it is the liver's responsibility to clear bilirubin. It tends to produce less anticholinergic effects, sedation and weight gain than some of the earlier TCAs (e.g. amitriptyline, clomipramine, doxepin, imipramine, trimipramine). It may also be less cardiotoxic than its predecessors.
